2017 sees the 25th Isle of Mull Disc Golf Championships which has also been chosen to be part of the PDGA Europe 2017 Euro Tour. We look forward to welcoming back many of those who have graced this event since its inception and those who have never visited before.
The Easter holiday weekend provides time for players to make one of the most exciting and memorable disc golf trips in any life time! With public holidays on the Friday before and the Monday after the tournament, players have more chance to visit this beautiful island. Mull has its own pace of life – ‘Mull time’ is when an hour can seem like a day – where the landscape and the community merge into one – enriching every aspect of your game and your life.
The event is ripe with history – from its inception in 1981 through to the first event in 1992, moving from snow posts to baskets, surviving the foot and mouth year and where many over-seas players as well as British and Euro Tour players have graced the slopes of Gremlin’s Croft to battle for the Mull Craich. This year, in honour of 25 years and as part of the Euro Tour, the Isle of Mull Classic will see the full Championship course in action and prize money offered for the first time!
The course at Fanmore is set over steep croft land, with outstandingly beautiful coastal and mountain views all around - and totally exposed to the weather (link to gallery on website). There are few trees, but with the elevation changes and wind, the course provides a huge challenge to players, the likes of which you will not experience anywhere else on the British or Euro Tour. Once again we offer every player four rounds over both 18 hole courses - the Classic White 18 and the longer Blue.
The event will offer all 8 divisions outlined on the PDGA Europe Tour website (add link) as well as the trophy based divisions traditionally held on Mull. Side by side with the best players in Europe will be the Mull Classic Divisional Championships for GB residents – including our commitment to developing children’s and adult recreational disc golf.
Mull is established as an essential part of the BDGA Tour and is delighted to be included in this year’s Euro Tour. The opportunity to visit one of Scotland’s most beautiful islands - to experience Mull time, the hospitality of locals, their food, drink and generosity - as well as play a few holes of golf – should not be missed.
It is a great location for an extended break with family and friends – if you and friends and family love hiking, climbing, boat trips, empty beaches, exploring, watching eagles soar and spectacular landscapes with weather to match – then come for the week as many of us do!
